Nine miles north of Santa Cruz, the town of Davenport is adorned with art galleries and charming cafes. In the winter months, the coastal bluffs provide the perfect perch for watching migrating whales as they pass just off shore and many visitors scour the windswept beaches below for sea glass treasures. Kite boarding and kite surfing are popular at Waddell Beach, where seasoned wave riders test their skills. Farther north, row crops stretch toward the sea, and north of town, elephant seals mate and nurse their young during wintertime at Año Nuevo State Reserve.
